Recently, I configured Microsoft Outlook with an IMAP account and I noticed that the Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and other folders were saved with This Computer Only written next to them. I want to know that what does This Computer Only mean. Moreover, I have another doubt that if these files are saved on the local system only, then how can I backup Outlook 2016 contacts, calendar, tasks folders with This Computer Only inscribed next to them.

Does this query seem familiar to you? Do you also want to know that What Does This Computer Only means in Outlook 2016 and Outlook 2013? If yes, then read this post and get solutions to all your queries.

Why Does Outlook Say Contacts / Calendar This Computer Only

Until Microsoft Outlook 2010, the IMAP folders created for each Outlook account were saved in the PST file and that PST file was different from the file which stores calendar and contact folders. Thus, the users can easily save the copies of their PST files to some other location and can use them as a backup whenever required. But, when it comes to Outlook 2013 and 2016, only a single OST file is created while configuring an IMAP account and that file stores all the mail and non-mail data in it. But, there is one problem with it as discussed below.

As per the functionality of the Outlook OST file, the complete mailbox data is saved within the files and it is automatically backed up on the server. But, in Microsoft Outlook 2016 and 2013, only the folders containing email messages are backed up on the server. Whereas, the contacts, calendar, tasks folders are not backed up on the mailbox server. They are saved locally and it shows This Computer Only written next to those folders.

Therefore, the users have to save Outlook 2013, 2016 IMAP Contacts & Calendar folders as any mishappening can cause corruption in OST files. Moreover, if the OST file is deleted accidentally, then the users can lose their contacts, calendar, tasks permanently. Thus, a solution is required so that users can get their mailbox data backup if they lose any data.

Backup & Save Outlook 2016, 2013 IMAP Folder This Computer Only

The Contacts, Calendar, Tasks folders in Microsoft Outlook 2013, 2016 are not synchronized to the mailbox server. Therefore, the users who have stored their crucial data in the OST file and that data is not backed up on the server wants to save their data as a backup. So, they find out various solutions for it.

So, we have come up with a solution i.e. OST File to PST Converter Tool using which users can easily convert their files in PST format and save to it some other location. Whenever the OST files become inaccessible or get deleted due to any possible reason, then they can use the newly created PST file and get back their lost data (calendar, contacts, tasks, etc.).

This automated tool is the most secure and reliable way to save entire mail and non-mail data from OST file into various file formats. The users can save Outlook Contacts, Calendar This Computer Only folders while performing the advance scan and conversion algorithms. The simple and easy to use GUI makes the entire process more easier.

Summarization of this Issue

The Offline OST file has several structural problems such as these files cannot be opened directly in Microsoft Outlook and they cannot be moved between systems. Additionally, Outlook 2013 and 2016 storing the mailbox data in a single file and not backing up contacts and calendar, it has become even more difficult to work with OST files. So, many users who want to save Outlook 2016, 2013 Calendar & Contacts This Computer Only IMAP Folders can use the third-party application to backup entire data in PST format. As, if any issue occurs, then the users can use that PST file to access in Outlook.
